- To export query results, click Export... below the results or right-click the results and choose Export result...
- To export whole tables, select them in the left sidebar and use File > Export, or right-click and choose Export...
- The documentation lists CSV, JSON and SQL output. Export to Excel was added in macOS 7.1.8 and Windows 7.1.2 (May and June 2026); the Linux changelog does not mention it.
- Right-clicking the data browser exports only the current page of rows (300 by default), not the whole table.
- Without an Excel option, export CSV; Excel opens CSV files directly, but uses its default formats for each column.
Export query results in TablePlus
This is the usual route when you want the output of a specific query in a spreadsheet. According to the TablePlus "Working With Query Results" page:
- Run the query in the query editor (the documented shortcut is Cmd + Return; on Windows use Ctrl in place of Cmd).
- When the results appear, click the Export... button at the bottom, or right-click the results table and choose Export result....
- Choose the output format and save the file.
If the results grid is not visible after running a query, the troubleshooting page says it is usually hidden: drag the bottom border of the query editor up. To save the query itself rather than its results, use the dropdown next to the Run button and choose Save SQL as....
Export whole tables
To export complete tables instead of a query result, the Import & Export documentation describes these steps:
- Select one or more tables in the left sidebar.
- Choose File > Export, or right-click and choose Export....
- Specify the output and click the Export... button to save the file to disk.
Be careful where you right-click. The Getting Started page warns that right-clicking in the data browser view exports only the current page of results, not the whole table. TablePlus shows table data in pages of 300 rows by default, so a page export of a large table is incomplete. Right-click the table name in the sidebar instead.
For a full copy of a database rather than a few tables, the File > Backup... feature writes a dump file.
TablePlus export to Excel, CSV, JSON or SQL
The documentation pages for query results and table export list three file formats: CSV, JSON and SQL. The release notes add Excel. The macOS changelog for 7.1.8 (10 June 2026) lists export to Excel for results, tables, multiple tables and multiple results, and the Windows changelog for 7.1.2 (30 May 2026) lists "Export to Excel". The Linux changelog has no Excel entry, so on Linux plan on CSV.
| Format | Where it is documented | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| CSV | Documentation (query results and tables) | Spreadsheets, other databases, data tools |
| JSON | Documentation (query results and tables) | APIs, scripts and applications |
| SQL | Documentation (query results and tables) | INSERT statements to load the rows into another database |
| Excel | Changelog only: macOS 7.1.8 and later, Windows 7.1.2 and later | Sharing results with spreadsheet users directly |
No Excel option? Export CSV and open it in Excel
If your build predates Excel export (for example, the last build your licence covers) or you are on Linux, export CSV. Microsoft's support article says there are two ways to bring a text file into Excel: open it directly, or import it as an external data range.
Opening directly is quickest, but Microsoft notes that Excel then interprets each column with its current default data format settings. That can change values: leading zeros in codes such as postcodes or account numbers, and dates in a different order from your system default. When that matters, use Excel's import route instead, which lets you set each column's format.
The CSV options TablePlus uses (delimiter, quote character, line break and decimal separator) are set under Preferences > General. If your regional settings use a comma as the decimal separator, check that the delimiter and decimal options do not clash before exporting.

Frequently asked questions
Can TablePlus export to Excel?
Yes, in recent builds. The macOS 7.1.8 and Windows 7.1.2 release notes add export to Excel. The documentation still lists CSV, JSON and SQL, and the Linux changelog does not mention Excel.
How do I export query results from TablePlus?
After the query runs, click Export... at the bottom of the results, or right-click the results and choose Export result..., then pick the format.
Why did my TablePlus export only include 300 rows?
You probably exported from the data browser, which exports only the current page; TablePlus shows 300 rows per page by default. Right-click the table name in the left sidebar and choose Export... to export the whole table.
Can I export several tables at once?
Yes. Select several tables in the left sidebar, then use File > Export. On macOS the 7.1.8 release notes also mention Excel export of multiple tables.
