Short answer

Qlik Talend makes sense for data quality when you also want integration, CDC and stewardship from the same vendor and are ready for the Premium edition or a Talend Data Fabric licence. If you are looking for the old free Talend Open Studio for Data Quality, it is gone, and the current options are quote-priced.

How we know: This profile is research-based: packaging, edition features and pricing model were checked on 7 November 2026 against Qlik's data integration pricing page, the Talend Data Fabric and data quality capability pages, Qlik Talend help for Talend Studio data quality, the Trust Score and data quality overview, and the Talend Open Studio retirement page. We have not used Talend products.

Overview

Talend Data Quality was once a standalone product family, including a free Talend Open Studio for Data Quality. Since Qlik bought Talend in 2023 and retired Open Studio on 31 January 2024, its capabilities are delivered in two places. In Qlik Talend Cloud, datasets get profiling and data quality based on automatically recognised semantic types, a data stewardship application for review and remediation, and the Qlik Talend Trust Score, which rolls dimensions such as validity, completeness, timeliness and accuracy into one score. These features start at the Premium edition.

In the client-managed world, Talend Studio offers a Profiling perspective for column, table, redundancy and correlation analyses on databases and files, plus Integration-perspective components for cleansing and matching inside Jobs. Qlik's help notes that these data quality features are installed through the Studio Feature Manager and are only available with licences that include them. Talend Data Fabric bundles Studio with Data Inventory, Data Preparation and Data Stewardship.

Key features

  • Profiling and quality checks on datasets based on automatically recognised semantic types (Qlik Talend Cloud Premium and above)
  • Qlik Talend Trust Score combining validity, completeness, timeliness, accuracy and other dimensions into one dataset score
  • Data stewardship campaigns where people review, validate and fix records
  • Talend Studio Profiling perspective with column, table, redundancy and correlation analyses and SQL or regex patterns
  • Data quality components for cleansing, standardisation and matching inside Talend Studio Jobs
  • Validation rules in an Accuracy category, weighted by severity, and a timeliness check against a freshness threshold you set

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Data quality, stewardship, integration and CDC from one vendor
  • Human review workflows through data stewardship, not only automated checks
  • Client-managed Talend Studio for teams that keep processing on premises
  • Trust Score gives business users one quality indicator per dataset

Cons

  • No free edition since Talend Open Studio was retired in January 2024
  • Most data quality features need the Premium edition or a licence that includes Studio data quality features
  • No public prices for any edition
  • Automatic anomaly detection and schema change monitoring are not documented

Pricing

Qlik Talend Cloud is sold in Starter, Standard, Premium and Enterprise editions under a capacity subscription measured by data volume moved, job executions and execution duration. On the pricing page, Starter and Standard include field-level metadata and data profiling only; semantic-type data quality and profiling, data stewardship and the Qlik Talend Trust Score start at Premium, and Enterprise inherits them. No prices are published for any edition, so all need a quote. A free trial of Qlik Talend Cloud is available; its length is not stated on the pricing page.

Who it is best for

Organisations that integrate data with Qlik Talend and want profiling, quality scoring and stewardship workflows on the same datasets.

Typical use cases

  • Profiling customer and product tables in Talend Studio before building integration Jobs
  • Routing records that fail validation to data stewards for review and correction
  • Scoring datasets with the Trust Score before publishing them as data products for analytics or AI
  • Cleansing and matching records inside client-managed Talend Jobs on premises

Who should look elsewhere

  • Former Talend Open Studio users who need a free tool: see Great Expectations or Soda.
  • Teams that want automated warehouse observability without writing rules: see Monte Carlo.

Verdict

Our take

Talend data quality is still capable, but it is now a set of features inside paid Qlik products rather than a tool you download. It suits Qlik Talend customers who want stewardship and scoring next to their pipelines; anyone else should compare it with dedicated quality platforms and open source checks, and confirm the edition before relying on a feature.
