Short answer

Collibra suits large, regulated organisations that need formal governance: an operating model with domains, owners and approval workflows, plus catalog, lineage and privacy in one place. It is quote-priced and modular, and most of its value depends on the stewardship effort you put in, so it is heavier than a discovery-first catalog for a single analytics team.

How we know: This profile is research-based: product names, modules, deployment and acquisitions were checked on 7 November 2026 against Collibra's home and products pages, the Collibra Platform documentation (products and features, Edge) and Collibra press releases. We have not used Collibra and we do not report prices we could not see.

Overview

Collibra Platform is Collibra's governance product, previously marketed as the Collibra Data Intelligence Platform. Its documentation lists more than 25 products and features, including Data Catalog, Business Glossary, Data Governance, Stewardship, Workflow Designer, Policy Manager, Reference Data, Data Lineage, Data Quality and Observability, Data Privacy, Protect, Data Marketplace and AI Governance, with recent additions such as the AI Command Center and Unstructured AI.

Collibra connects to sources through Edge, which keeps data processing inside your network and sends results to Collibra. Edge runs on Kubernetes as a standard site you install, or as a Collibra Cloud site that Collibra deploys and upgrades, with some features unavailable on cloud sites. The documentation also describes Collibra Platform Self-Hosted, where you host both the platform and the Edge site.

Key features

  • Data Catalog with search, a browser extension (Collibra Everywhere) and a Data Marketplace for sharing approved data
  • Business Glossary, Reference Data and Policy Manager for governed definitions and policies
  • Stewardship, Guided Stewardship and Workflow Designer for building governance workflows, plus a Data Helpdesk
  • Data Lineage, plus Data Quality and Observability (cloud) or Data Quality and Observability Classic (self-hosted)
  • Data Privacy, Protect and Data Access products, with data classification as a documented platform feature
  • Data products and data contracts, and AI Governance with the AI Command Center for models and agents
  • Edge sites that process metadata in your own environment, on Kubernetes or as Collibra-managed cloud sites

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Broad governance scope: glossary, policies, stewardship workflows, lineage, quality, privacy and AI governance
  • Configurable workflows suit formal operating models with owners and approvals
  • Edge keeps metadata processing inside your network
  • Extends governance to unstructured data (Unstructured AI) and AI models

Cons

  • No public pricing; modules are scoped and quoted separately
  • Standard Edge sites need Kubernetes skills; Collibra Cloud sites lack some features
  • Value depends on sustained stewardship effort and an agreed operating model
  • Data quality differs between the cloud product and the Classic self-hosted version

Pricing

Collibra publishes no prices or editions on its website; the product pages lead to a demo or sales contact, so budget for a quote. Modules such as Data Catalog, Data Governance, Data Lineage, Data Quality and Observability and Data Privacy are listed as separate products of the platform, so ask which ones a quote includes.

Who it is best for

Large or regulated organisations that need a formal data governance programme with glossary, policies, ownership workflows and lineage across many systems.

Typical use cases

  • Running a governance programme with domain owners, stewards and approval workflows
  • Building an enterprise business glossary linked to physical tables and reports
  • Tracing lineage for regulatory reporting and impact analysis
  • Recording privacy assessments and classifying personal data
  • Governing AI models and agents alongside the data they use

Who should look elsewhere

  • Small analytics teams that mainly want search and documentation on top of one warehouse: a lighter catalog such as Secoda or an open source option such as DataHub may fit better.
  • Teams that want published or self-serve pricing.

Verdict

Our take

Collibra Platform is one of the most complete governance-led catalogs, and it fits organisations that treat governance as a programme with owners and workflows. It needs a quote, Kubernetes or managed Edge decisions and real stewardship effort, so smaller teams focused on discovery may get value faster from a lighter catalog.

Frequently asked questions

Is Collibra Platform the same as the Collibra Data Intelligence Platform?

Yes. Collibra now uses the name Collibra Platform; 2024 documentation still used Collibra Data Intelligence Platform and Collibra Data Intelligence Cloud.

How much does Collibra cost?

Collibra does not publish prices. Pricing is by quote, and products such as Data Catalog, Data Quality and Observability and Data Privacy are listed separately, so confirm what a quote covers.

Can Collibra run on premises?

Collibra's documentation describes Collibra Platform Self-Hosted, where you host the platform and the Edge site. In the SaaS model, Edge sites still process metadata inside your network, either installed by you on Kubernetes or deployed by Collibra as Collibra Cloud sites.

Does Collibra include data quality?

Yes, as a separate product: Data Quality and Observability for the cloud platform, and Data Quality and Observability Classic for self-hosted use.
