Best Oracle GoldenGate Alternatives

Change data capture and replication tools that can read from Oracle Database instead of Oracle GoldenGate, grouped by what you need to do with the changes: replicate to other databases, stream them into Kafka, migrate into AWS, or keep several sites in sync.

Last verified November 2026. Features, editions and pricing change; check each vendor's site before buying.
Short answer

If you need another commercial, log-based replicator for an Oracle-centred estate with many targets, shortlist Qlik Replicate, Fivetran HVR and, where Db2 or the mainframe also matters, IBM Data Replication. If the changes should be filtered or joined in flight, Striim is built around streaming SQL. If the destination is Kafka, Debezium is free and open source, and Confluent CDC source connectors give you the same idea as a supported service with Confluent's own Oracle connectors. For a migration into AWS, AWS DMS is the lowest-commitment option. For two-way sync across mixed engines, SymmetricDS is the main alternative here. None of them documents the automatic Oracle-to-Oracle conflict resolution that GoldenGate offers, so active-active Oracle estates have the fewest options.

How we know: This guide is research-based: lifecycle, licensing, pricing models, deployment options and Oracle capture methods come from the CodeWithSQL directory profiles, which were checked against official vendor documentation on 7 November 2026, and from our AWS DMS guide (checked 8 October 2026). We have not run these tools, measured latency or compared real bills, and we do not repeat vendor performance claims. No product on this page paid for inclusion.

Oracle GoldenGate reads database transaction logs and moves committed changes to other databases and platforms: an Extract process captures changes into trail files and a Replicat process applies them on the target. The current line is GoldenGate 26ai (version numbers 23.26.x; 23.26.4 shipped in October 2026), which, like 23ai before it, ships for the Microservices Architecture only. It covers Oracle and many non-Oracle databases, adds Kafka, object storage, Snowflake and BigQuery through GoldenGate for Distributed Applications and Analytics, and is also sold as the managed OCI GoldenGate service, sized in OCPUs with License included or BYOL options.

GoldenGate remains the reference tool for Oracle. Teams that look elsewhere usually give one of these reasons; the first three come from Oracle's own documentation, the last is our editorial reading.

  • Licence cost and complexity. Self-managed GoldenGate is licensed through Oracle's technology price list, which we could not read on official pages, and OCI GoldenGate per-OCPU rates sit on Oracle's cloud price list. Budgeting needs an Oracle quote.
  • A forced platform change. Classic Architecture is desupported from 23ai onwards, so long-running Classic deployments must move to Microservices with Oracle's migration utility before upgrading. Some teams use that moment to reassess the tool.
  • The free edition is small. GoldenGate Free is limited to Oracle databases of 20 GB or less, has no Oracle Support and cannot be combined with licensed GoldenGate.
  • More than the job needs (editorial). Active-active replication and conflict resolution are GoldenGate's strengths; if you only need one-way feeds from Oracle into analytics or Kafka, lighter tools can cover it with less specialist skill.

For head-to-head pages, see Debezium vs Oracle GoldenGate, Qlik Replicate vs Striim and Fivetran HVR vs Qlik Replicate. If your estate is not centred on Oracle and the goal is loading cloud warehouses, see Qlik Replicate alternatives instead.

How we chose

We considered Qlik Replicate, Fivetran HVR, Striim, IBM Data Replication, Debezium, Confluent CDC source connectors, AWS DMS, SymmetricDS, Tungsten Replicator, Estuary, Azure SQL Data Sync and Arcion. To be included, a product had to be sold or actively developed in November 2026, capture changes from Oracle Database, and document its licensing or pricing model on an official page. Tungsten Replicator was left out because its sources are limited to MySQL, MariaDB and Percona Server. SQL Data Sync was left out because it works only with Azure SQL Database and SQL Server and retires on 30 September 2027. Arcion is not listed: Databricks acquired it in 2023, we found no current standalone offering, and its technology now powers database connectors in Databricks Lakeflow Connect, which deliver only into Databricks.

For each product we recorded how it captures from Oracle, where it can deliver, how it is sold and its main limitation. Exact prices are not quoted because most of these vendors sell by quote; where a vendor publishes a pricing unit, we name it. None of this comes from our own use of the tools.

The order is not a ranking. Entries start with commercial, log-based replicators, then streaming platforms, then Kafka-based options, then migration and multi-site sync tools.

Qlik Replicate

Paid (quote, licensed by endpoint) Windows Server 2016 to 2025; RHEL 8, 9, 10; Amazon Linux 2023 Best for: Oracle-centred estates that also replicate SQL Server, Db2 or SAP to many targets

Qlik Replicate (formerly Attunity Replicate) is client-managed, log-based CDC software. A task runs a full load of the selected tables, then reads the source transaction log, groups changes by transaction and applies them on commit. Its May 2026 support matrix covers Oracle alongside SQL Server, Db2 for LUW, iSeries and z/OS, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SAP HANA and SAP application sources, and targets that include Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Kafka and cloud object storage. Design and monitoring happen in a web console, which many teams find easier to pick up than GoldenGate parameter files (editorial).

Qlik does not publish prices, and its documentation says the endpoints you can use depend on your licence. Qlik's managed counterpart is Qlik Talend Cloud, sold separately. See Qlik Replicate vs Striim and Fivetran HVR vs Qlik Replicate.

Limitations
  • No public pricing, and licences are scoped to specific endpoints.
  • No documented equivalent of GoldenGate's automatic Oracle-to-Oracle conflict resolution.
  • Each release retires older endpoint versions, so upgrades need planning.

Fivetran HVR

Paid (Business Critical plan, Monthly Active Rows) Hub on Linux or Windows; agents on Linux, Windows, AIX, Solaris Best for: High-volume, self-hosted replication from Oracle inside your own network

HVR (High-Volume Replicator) is the self-hosted replication product Fivetran describes as a self-hosted version of Fivetran. A hub server schedules capture, integrate, refresh and compare jobs, and optional agents on source or target machines connect to it over TLS. Capture reads Oracle and other transaction logs in real time; documented capture sources include Oracle, SQL Server, Db2 (LUW, i, z/OS), SAP HANA and SAP NetWeaver, PostgreSQL and MySQL, with targets such as Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift, Teradata and Kafka. HVR 6.3 went GA on 11 December 2025 with regular support to 31 December 2028.

HVR is sold only on the Business Critical plan and billed in Monthly Active Rows, counted for each destination; no per-row list price is published. The built-in compare jobs are useful when you need to prove a replica matches its Oracle source.

Limitations
  • MAR is counted per destination, so fanning out to several targets raises cost.
  • The hub must be registered with a Fivetran account for licensing and usage reporting.
  • HVR 6 is not compatible with HVR 5.x or 4.x.

Striim

Freemium (Developer tier free up to 25 million events a month) Striim Cloud on AWS, Google Cloud, Azure; Striim Platform on RHEL, Ubuntu, Windows Server Best for: Low-latency Oracle CDC with filtering, enrichment or joins before delivery

Striim is a streaming integration platform. For Oracle it offers two CDC readers, Oracle Reader and OJet, alongside readers for SQL Server, MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MongoDB and HP NonStop. Changes can be transformed with Striim's SQL-based streaming language (continuous queries, windows and caches) and delivered to warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks and Microsoft Fabric, or to Kafka. Striim Cloud and Striim Platform were both at release 5.4.4 in November 2026.

Striim Developer is free up to 25 million events a month. Striim Cloud is priced by quote with no published unit, and Striim Platform is licensed by connector with unlimited data volume. See Qlik Replicate vs Striim.

Limitations
  • No published rates for Striim Cloud or Striim Platform.
  • Streaming SQL is another language for the team to learn and maintain.
  • Bidirectional conflict handling was not verified on official pages, so do not assume it replaces GoldenGate active-active.

IBM Data Replication

Paid (quote; no-cost trial) Linux, UNIX and Windows; IBM i; z/OS; containers for selected engines Best for: Estates where Oracle sits next to Db2, IMS or VSAM on the mainframe

IBM Data Replication (documented as IBM InfoSphere Data Replication 11.4) combines CDC Replication, Q Replication and SQL Replication. CDC Replication uses a source and a target engine per database, including Oracle, and delivers to databases, Kafka, files and IBM DataStage; IBM's product page also lists Snowflake, BigQuery, PostgreSQL and Hadoop as targets. Its strength is the mainframe: Db2 for z/OS, IMS and VSAM sources, with 11.4 adding remote-source engines that read Db2 for z/OS logs from a distributed server.

IBM publishes no prices, and some engines, such as Db2 for z/OS, IMS and VSAM, have needed separate entitlements, so list every source and target when asking for a quote. In our view it makes most sense where IBM is already a strategic supplier.

Limitations
  • No public pricing, with extra entitlements for mainframe engines.
  • Administration through Management Console and Access Server is heavier than web-native tools.
  • Fewer documented cloud warehouse and lakehouse targets than newer CDC platforms.

Debezium

Free (Apache 2.0) Kafka Connect, Debezium Server (standalone), embedded Java engine, Kubernetes Best for: One-way Oracle CDC into Kafka or another event stream without licence fees

Debezium is open source change data capture hosted by the Commonhaus Foundation; 3.7.1.Final was the latest stable release on 6 November 2026. Its Oracle connector has three adapters: LogMiner (the default, buffered or unbuffered), OpenLogReplicator, and XStream. Debezium documents XStream as a commercial component of Oracle GoldenGate, so that adapter depends on GoldenGate (check the licensing with Oracle), while the LogMiner and OpenLogReplicator routes do not involve GoldenGate.

Changes arrive as events, one topic per table on Kafka Connect, or go to sinks such as Kinesis, Pub/Sub, Pulsar, Event Hubs or Iceberg through Debezium Server. It is a capture tool, not a replication suite: there is no conflict resolution and no vendor support from the project. See Debezium vs Oracle GoldenGate.

Limitations
  • One-way capture only, with no bidirectional sync or conflict resolution.
  • You operate Kafka Connect or Debezium Server, offsets and schema history yourself.
  • The XStream adapter depends on a commercial GoldenGate component.

Confluent CDC source connectors

Paid (task-hours plus data transfer; CDC task rates by quote) Confluent Cloud on AWS, Azure, Google Cloud; self-managed Kafka Connect Best for: Teams on Confluent that want supported Oracle CDC into Kafka

Confluent, owned by IBM since March 2026, sells two Oracle connectors of its own. Oracle CDC Source reads redo logs through LogMiner and supports Oracle 19c, 21c and 23ai Enterprise Edition; Oracle XStream CDC Source uses Oracle's XStream Out interface. Both write row-level changes to Kafka topics, fully managed on Confluent Cloud or self-managed on Confluent Platform. Debezium-based V2 connectors cover MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQL Server.

Fully managed connectors are billed per task-hour plus USD 0.025 per GB of data transfer, but the task-hour price of the Oracle CDC Premium and Oracle XStream CDC Premium connectors is shown as Contact us. You also pay for the Kafka cluster. The self-managed Oracle CDC Source connector has a 30-day trial, then needs a Confluent subscription.

Limitations
  • Only delivers to Kafka; other targets need separate sink connectors.
  • The Oracle connectors do not work with Oracle Autonomous Database.
  • Task-hour prices for the CDC connectors are not published.

AWS DMS

Paid (replication instance hours or DMS Serverless DCU-hours) Managed service on AWS Best for: Low-downtime migrations from Oracle into AWS databases and services

AWS Database Migration Service copies data from a source to a target once or continuously. You configure a replication instance (or a DMS Serverless replication that scales in DMS capacity units), source and target endpoints, and a task that is full load, full load plus CDC, or CDC only. It handles homogeneous and heterogeneous moves, such as Oracle to PostgreSQL, with DMS Schema Conversion for the schema, and targets include relational engines, data warehouses, NoSQL stores and Amazon S3.

Cost is mainly the hourly replication instance or DCU-hours, plus storage above the included amount and cross-AZ or cross-Region transfer. For an Oracle-to-AWS move, it can replace the GoldenGate licence for the migration window. See our AWS DMS guide and AWS DMS vs Azure Database Migration Service.

Limitations
  • Designed around migrating into AWS rather than running long-term feeds between any platforms (editorial).
  • Sequences are not migrated during ongoing replication and must be set before cutover.
  • Heterogeneous moves still need schema conversion and code rewrites.

SymmetricDS

Freemium (Community AGPL v3; Standard and Enterprise by quote) Java on Windows, Linux, Unix; Docker and Kubernetes Best for: Two-way or multi-site replication between Oracle and other engines

SymmetricDS from JumpMind replicates tables and synchronises files between nodes, in one direction or both, with routers that subset or broadcast data per node and conflict rules you configure for bidirectional setups. JumpMind says it supports 40+ database platforms, including Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL and MySQL. That makes it the alternative here for central-to-branch or edge topologies where GoldenGate's peer-to-peer features would be the other choice.

The Community edition is free but captures changes with database triggers; log-based capture, a web console, clustering and faster sync intervals come with the paid Standard and Enterprise editions, priced by quote with a 30-day Pro trial. With 3.18 the Community licence changed from GPL v3 to AGPL v3, effective 1 September 2026, and Java 21 is now required. See SymmetricDS vs Tungsten Replicator.

Limitations
  • Trigger-based capture on the Community edition adds write overhead to source tables.
  • Log-based capture and faster intervals need a paid subscription with no public prices.
  • The move to AGPL v3 may need a licence review for embedded or hosted use.

When to stay with GoldenGate

Stay with GoldenGate if you run active-active Oracle databases: its automatic conflict detection and resolution for Oracle-to-Oracle tables (latest or earliest timestamp, delta, site priority, delete always wins) is documented in a way none of the tools above match. The same applies to zero-downtime Oracle upgrades, and to estates that already hold GoldenGate licences, where OCI GoldenGate with BYOL may cost less than a new product (editorial).

Switching makes most sense when the requirement is narrower than GoldenGate: one-way feeds into Kafka (Debezium, Confluent), into warehouses (Qlik Replicate, Fivetran HVR, Striim), a one-time move into AWS (AWS DMS) or multi-site sync across mixed engines (SymmetricDS). If you are migrating from Classic Architecture anyway, run the alternative in parallel on a copy of the workload before you commit.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free alternative to Oracle GoldenGate?

Debezium is free under Apache 2.0 and captures Oracle changes with LogMiner or OpenLogReplicator, but it is one-way only and you run it yourself. SymmetricDS Community is free under the AGPL v3 and supports two-way sync with trigger-based capture. Oracle also offers GoldenGate Free for Oracle databases of 20 GB or less, without Oracle Support.

Does Debezium need a GoldenGate licence for Oracle?

Only the XStream adapter depends on GoldenGate: Debezium documents XStream as a commercial component of Oracle GoldenGate, so confirm the licensing with Oracle. The default LogMiner adapter and the OpenLogReplicator adapter do not use GoldenGate. See Debezium vs Oracle GoldenGate.

Which alternative supports active-active Oracle replication?

Of the tools on this page, SymmetricDS documents bidirectional replication with configurable conflict rules. None of them documents an equivalent of GoldenGate's automatic conflict detection and resolution for Oracle-to-Oracle tables, so test conflict behaviour carefully before replacing GoldenGate in an active-active setup.

What happened to Arcion?

Databricks agreed to acquire Arcion in October 2023, and its technology now powers database connectors in Databricks Lakeflow Connect, which deliver into Databricks only. We found no current standalone Arcion product, so it is not recommended here. See the Arcion profile.

Can I keep using GoldenGate Classic Architecture?

Not on current releases. Classic Architecture is desupported from GoldenGate 23ai, and 26ai is Microservices only. Oracle documents a migration utility that moves Extracts and Replicats to Microservices deployments.
