Striim suits teams that want CDC and in-flight processing in one product, for example filtering, joining and enriching Oracle or SQL Server changes before they land in Snowflake, BigQuery, Fabric or Kafka. The free Developer tier is useful for evaluation, but production use on Striim Cloud or Striim Platform is quote-only.
Overview
Striim reads data continuously from databases, applications, files and message queues, lets you transform it with a SQL-based streaming language (continuous queries, windows and caches) and writes it to one or more targets. Its CDC readers work from database logs: Oracle Reader and OJet for Oracle, MS SQL Reader and MSJet for SQL Server, the binary log for MySQL and MariaDB, replication slots for PostgreSQL and YugabyteDB, the oplog for MongoDB and the TMF audit trail for HP NonStop.
It is sold as Striim Cloud, a fully managed service on AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure, and Striim Platform, which you run yourself on 64-bit RHEL, Ubuntu or Windows Server with Java 17. Both were at release 5.4.4 in November 2026. Striim also sells Validata for comparing and verifying datasets, and Microsoft names Striim as a partner option for online migrations to Azure SQL Database.
Key features
- Log-based CDC readers for Oracle (Oracle Reader and OJet), SQL Server (MS SQL Reader and MSJet), MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, YugabyteDB, MongoDB and HP NonStop
- Streaming SQL: continuous queries, joins with cached reference data and windowed aggregation in flight
- About 50 documented writers, including Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Fabric (warehouse, lakehouse and mirroring), Redshift, Spanner, Kafka, Kinesis and Pub/Sub
- Initial load and CDC set up from a wizard that can also create the target schema
- Schema evolution handling: capture schema changes and choose how each target handles them, or halt and alert for manual resolution
- Validata (separate product) for comparing and verifying source and target datasets
- Free Striim Developer sandbox up to 25 million events a month
Integrations and ecosystem
Pros and cons
Pros
- Combines CDC with in-flight SQL transformation, so fewer extra tools are needed
- Two Oracle CDC options and two SQL Server CDC options documented
- Strong coverage of Microsoft Fabric, BigQuery, Snowflake and Databricks as targets
- Free Developer tier for genuine evaluation
Cons
- No published rates for Striim Cloud or Striim Platform
- Streaming SQL is another language for the team to learn and maintain
- Mainframe Db2 and IMS sources are not in the reader list (Db2 for z/OS appears only as a target)
- macOS and Windows 11 are supported for evaluation and development only
Pricing
Striim Developer is free for up to 25 million events a month and includes trial access to premium, standard and preview connectors. Striim Cloud (dedicated cloud) is priced by quote; the pricing page says you pay for the data you move but publishes no rate or unit, and offers a free trial. Striim Platform (self-managed) is also quote-only, licensed by the connectors you need with unlimited data volume. Validata, the data verification product, is sold through sales.
Pricing checked on the vendor's official page on 7 November 2026. Prices change; confirm before buying.
Who it is best for
Data teams that need low-latency CDC from Oracle, SQL Server or PostgreSQL plus filtering, enrichment or joins in flight before loading a cloud warehouse or Kafka.
Typical use cases
- Online migration from SQL Server to Azure SQL Database with continuous sync until cutover
- Streaming Oracle changes into Snowflake, BigQuery or Fabric for near real-time analytics
- Publishing database change events to Kafka or Pub/Sub with in-flight filtering and enrichment
- Replicating MongoDB or Cosmos DB changes into a relational or analytics target
Who should look elsewhere
- Teams that want an open source, Kafka Connect based CDC stack: see Debezium.
- Simple scheduled ELT from SaaS apps, where a managed ELT service is simpler: see Fivetran.
Verdict
Striim is a good fit when you need CDC and stream processing together and want either a managed service or software you run yourself. Its reader and writer lists are broad for mainstream databases and cloud warehouses, but pricing beyond the free tier is quote-only and there is no documented mainframe Db2 or IMS capture, so check your sources first.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free version of Striim?
Yes. Striim Developer is free for up to 25 million events a month and includes trial access to the connectors. Striim Cloud has a free trial; Striim Platform and Cloud production use are priced by quote.
What is the difference between Striim Cloud and Striim Platform?
Striim Cloud is a fully managed service that Striim runs on AWS, Google Cloud or Azure. Striim Platform is the self-managed software you install on Linux or Windows Server, on premises or in your own cloud account, licensed by connector.
How does Striim capture changes from Oracle?
Striim documents two Oracle readers: Oracle Reader and OJet, both of which read Oracle logs. Either feeds the same streaming pipeline.
