Informatica TDM makes most sense for organisations already running PowerCenter or IDMC, where it reuses the same connectivity and masking engine. Note how the offering has shifted: the on-premises product sits on the 10.5.x platform, the packaged cloud TDM edition is built for Salesforce sandboxes, and general cloud masking is an IPU-metered IDMC capability. Ask Informatica which one it will actually sell you and for how long.
Overview
On premises, Informatica TDM works with PowerCenter and PowerExchange. Its Test Data Manager web tool runs sensitive-field profiles and primary and foreign key profiles to find personal data and relationships, builds subsets from entities (related tables) and groups (unrelated tables) with filter criteria, applies masking rules such as substitution, shuffle, key masking and encryption, generates data from rules in a separate plan, and stores versions of test data in a test data warehouse. Plans compile into PowerCenter workflows, and the ilmcmd command line runs a subset of tasks.
In the cloud, Informatica's October 2026 product schedule packages Cloud Test Data Management Standard Edition for Salesforce: it masks and subsets a sandbox org from a production org, in-stream or in place, using one Secure Agent and restricted Salesforce and JDBC connectors. Masking of other sources in IDMC is a separate Data Masking capability used inside mappings and metered in IPUs. Informatica is now owned by Salesforce, which completed the acquisition on 18 November 2025.
Key features
- Sensitive-data discovery with data domains, plus primary and foreign key profiling to find relationships
- Referentially intact subsets built from entities, groups and filter criteria, limited by percentage, row count or interval
- Masking rules including substitution, shuffle, key masking and encryption, with repeatable results from seeds and dictionaries
- Rule-based data generation for environments that use no production data (on-premises TDM)
- Test data warehouse for saving, restoring and resetting versions of test data sets (on-premises TDM)
- Cloud Test Data Management for Salesforce: mask and subset a sandbox org from production, in-stream or in place
- Command line (ilmcmd) for scripting TDM tasks
Integrations and ecosystem
Pros and cons
Pros
- Reuses PowerCenter and IDMC connectivity and skills that many enterprises already have
- Covers discovery, subsetting, masking and generation in one suite on premises
- Packaged Salesforce sandbox masking and subsetting with no row limits
- Large vendor with defined contract documents for each cloud SKU
Cons
- Packaging is split between an on-premises product, a Salesforce-only cloud edition and IPU-metered masking
- No published prices for any option
- On-premises TDM depends on the PowerCenter platform, whose 10.4 support ended in March 2024
- Roadmap after the Salesforce acquisition is not spelled out on public pages
Pricing
Informatica publishes no prices for Test Data Management. Its Cloud and Product Description Schedule (version 39.2.1, effective 21 October 2026) lists Informatica Cloud Test Data Management Standard Edition, subscribed per instance, which masks and subsets one Salesforce sandbox org from one production org with no row limits, plus an Additional Sandbox SKU; prices are in the order, not public. For other sources, IDMC meters its Data Masking capability in IPUs at 0.16 IPU per compute hour for the first 2,000 hours and 0.025 above that, and IPU prices are by quote. On-premises TDM licences are also by quote.
Pricing checked on the vendor's official page on 7 November 2026. Prices change; confirm before buying.
Who it is best for
Enterprises already standardised on Informatica PowerCenter or IDMC, and Salesforce customers that need masked, subsetted sandbox orgs.
Typical use cases
- Seeding Salesforce sandbox orgs with masked, subsetted production records
- Masking customer data in PowerCenter-fed test environments
- Building smaller referentially intact test databases from large production systems
- Keeping reusable versions of test data that QA teams can reset between test cycles
Who should look elsewhere
- Teams without an Informatica footprint that want a standalone test data tool: see Tonic.ai, Delphix or DATPROF.
Verdict
Informatica TDM is a reasonable option inside an existing Informatica estate, with mature subsetting and masking on premises and a packaged Salesforce sandbox edition in the cloud. Outside that estate, the split packaging, lack of public prices and the platform's lifecycle make standalone tools such as Delphix, K2view or Tonic.ai easier to evaluate.
Frequently asked questions
Is Informatica Test Data Management still sold?
Informatica's October 2026 product schedule still lists Cloud Test Data Management Standard Edition and an Additional Sandbox SKU, both for Salesforce orgs. On-premises TDM documentation runs to the 10.5.x line. The old TDM product page now opens a general governance page, so confirm on-premises availability and support dates with Informatica.
What does Cloud Test Data Management cover?
According to the product schedule, it masks and subsets one Salesforce sandbox org from one production org, in-stream or in place, with no limit on rows, and it is subscribed per instance. Additional sandboxes are bought separately.
How is Informatica TDM priced?
By quote. Cloud TDM is subscribed per instance, and IDMC Data Masking used in mappings is metered in IPUs (0.16 IPU per compute hour for the first 2,000 hours, then 0.025). Informatica does not publish IPU prices.
Who owns Informatica now?
Salesforce. It completed its acquisition of Informatica on 18 November 2025, and Informatica's site and contract documents now carry Salesforce branding.
