Delphix fits enterprises that need many full-size, refreshable test databases from Oracle, SQL Server, Db2 or SAP estates without paying for full physical copies, with masking applied before the copies reach developers. It is a substantial platform, quote-priced by capability and size, so it suits large application teams more than a single project.
Overview
Delphix, now Perforce Delphix and marketed as the Delphix DevOps Data Platform, has two core jobs. Continuous Data keeps a compressed, immutable record of source databases and delivers virtual copies that share common blocks, so each copy is a full read/write database without the storage of a physical copy. Teams can refresh, rewind, bookmark, branch and share these copies. For Amazon RDS and Azure SQL Database it orchestrates provider-native APIs instead of delivering virtual copies.
For masking, Continuous Compliance discovers sensitive data such as names, emails and card numbers and replaces it with realistic values that keep referential integrity within and across sources, and Hyperscale Compliance runs masking in parallel for very large datasets, including Snowflake and Databricks. Data Control Tower is the central management and API layer across engines, and a Synthetic Data module generates data for edge cases. The help site lists Data Control Tower releases up to 2026.4.
Key features
- Virtual, writable database copies that share blocks, provisioned from any point in time
- Refresh, rewind, bookmark, branch and share operations for test environments
- Sensitive data discovery with built-in and custom classifiers
- Masking algorithms that preserve referential integrity within and across sources (Continuous Compliance)
- Hyperscale Compliance for parallel masking of large datasets, including Snowflake and Databricks
- Data Control Tower for central management, APIs and CI/CD integration
- AI-assisted synthetic data generation alongside masked data
Integrations and ecosystem
Pros and cons
Pros
- Full-size, writable test databases without full storage cost per copy
- Masking and data delivery in one platform, so masked copies are the default
- Wide source coverage including mainframe Db2, SAP HANA and data warehouses
- Rewind and bookmark features suit repeatable automated tests
Cons
- No public pricing
- A platform with engines to deploy and operate, not a lightweight tool
- Managed cloud databases such as RDS and Azure SQL get API orchestration rather than virtual copies
- Documentation is moving to the Perforce Developer Hub, so some links are in flux
Pricing
Perforce publishes no Delphix prices. Its pricing page says the price depends on which capabilities you choose (Data Masking and Compliance, Test Data Management and Data Delivery, Synthetic Data Generation, alone or combined) and rises with deployment size, without metered billing. You request a quote.

Who it is best for
Large enterprises that run many test environments from Oracle, SQL Server, Db2 or SAP databases and need them masked, refreshable and space-efficient.
Typical use cases
- Give each developer or CI pipeline its own masked, writable copy of a large Oracle database
- Rewind a test database to a bookmark after each automated test run
- Mask PII in SQL Server or Db2 copies before they leave the production network
- Mask very large Snowflake or Databricks datasets in parallel
Who should look elsewhere
- Teams that only need masking of copies they already make: see DataMasque.
- Teams that prefer entity-based subsets over full virtual copies: see K2view.
Verdict
Perforce Delphix is a strong option when the problem is many large, masked test databases that must be refreshed and reset quickly; its virtual copies and integrated masking address both cost and privacy. The trade-offs are platform weight and quote-only pricing, so it makes most sense at enterprise scale.
Frequently asked questions
Who owns Delphix?
Perforce Software. delphix.com redirects to perforce.com/products/delphix, and the product is now called Perforce Delphix, with the Delphix DevOps Data Platform as its umbrella name.
Is Delphix a masking tool or a test data tool?
Both. Continuous Data delivers virtual, writable copies for development and testing, and Continuous Compliance and Hyperscale Compliance discover and mask sensitive data. They are sold as capabilities on one platform.
How is Delphix different from K2view?
Delphix virtualizes whole databases: each copy is a full read/write database sharing blocks with a stored record of the source. K2view organises test data by business entity, such as one customer across many systems, and provisions entity-based subsets with masking applied in flight.
How much does Delphix cost?
Perforce does not publish prices. The price depends on which capabilities you choose and on deployment size, with no metered billing, and you request a quote.
