Short answer

Treat EverSQL as a historical name. The optimizer survives inside Aiven: as AI insights in Aiven for PostgreSQL and Aiven for MySQL services, and as a free standalone page where you paste a query and its schema metadata. If you do not run on Aiven, the standalone tool can still suggest indexes and rewrites, but it does not connect to your database.

How we know: This profile is research-based: ownership, product names, features and pricing were checked on 7 November 2026 against Aiven's acquisition press release (21 November 2023), Aiven's AI Database Optimizer launch post (28 May 2024), the Aiven documentation for AI insights on PostgreSQL and MySQL, the Aiven SQL Query Optimizer page and the eversql.com home and pricing pages. We have not used EverSQL or the Aiven optimizer.

Overview

EverSQL was a Tel Aviv company whose web service analysed SQL queries and recommended indexes and query rewrites for PostgreSQL and MySQL. Aiven, the Helsinki-based managed open source data platform, announced on 21 November 2023 that it had acquired EverSQL and planned to add query optimisation and index recommendations to Aiven for PostgreSQL and Aiven for MySQL first, then monitoring, alerting and configuration tuning.

On 28 May 2024 Aiven launched the AI Database Optimizer, which its launch post says is powered by EverSQL by Aiven. Inside an Aiven service it appears as the AI insights tab, where you choose a query and select Optimize. For databases outside Aiven, Aiven offers a standalone SQL Query Optimizer page that takes SQL statements and metadata you upload by hand. The eversql.com site still carries the EverSQL brand but now routes visitors to these Aiven tools.

Key features

  • Index recommendations and SQL rewrite suggestions for PostgreSQL and MySQL queries
  • Suggestions based on query structure, table size, existing indexes and their cardinality, column types and table relationships (Aiven documentation)
  • AI insights tab built into Aiven for PostgreSQL and Aiven for MySQL services, with an Optimize action per query
  • Works from metadata and statistics: Aiven says it needs no database credentials or access to table data
  • Data masking of literal values in slow query logs, on by default in Aiven services
  • Standalone SQL Query Optimizer for one-off use when you do not run an Aiven service (manual upload of SQL and metadata)

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Free standalone optimizer for single PostgreSQL or MySQL queries
  • No database credentials needed: suggestions come from metadata and statistics
  • Built into Aiven for PostgreSQL and Aiven for MySQL at no documented extra charge
  • Literal values are masked by default in Aiven slow query logs

Cons

  • EverSQL is no longer sold under its own plans; the brand is a pointer to Aiven
  • Continuous analysis is only documented for databases hosted on Aiven
  • The standalone tool only takes SQL and metadata you paste in; it cannot watch a live database
  • Aiven calls the standalone optimizer free during Early Availability, so its long-term pricing is not settled

Pricing

EverSQL no longer publishes its own plans or prices: on 7 November 2026 its pricing page showed no plans, and its "Start Optimizing for Free" links led to Aiven's standalone SQL Query Optimizer, which Aiven describes as free during the Early Availability period. The integrated optimizer (AI Database Optimizer) is a feature of Aiven for PostgreSQL and Aiven for MySQL services; Aiven lists PostgreSQL plans from a $0 Free plan and a $5 per month Developer plan to Startup (from $75 per month) and Business (from $180 per month). Aiven does not document a separate charge for the optimizer, or whether it works on the Free plan.

Who it is best for

Teams already on Aiven for PostgreSQL or MySQL who want index and rewrite suggestions next to their service, and developers who want a quick second opinion on a single slow query.

Typical use cases

  • Getting index suggestions for a slow query in an Aiven for PostgreSQL service
  • Reviewing a MySQL query rewrite before a release
  • One-off optimisation of a query from a self-hosted database by pasting its SQL and schema metadata
  • Replacing an old EverSQL subscription with the Aiven equivalent

Who should look elsewhere

Verdict

Our take

EverSQL as an independent product has ended; what remains is a capable index and rewrite advisor that Aiven ships inside its PostgreSQL and MySQL services and as a free standalone page. It is a sensible choice if you are on Aiven, while teams running databases elsewhere will get continuous analysis from a dedicated monitoring tool instead.

Frequently asked questions

Is EverSQL still available?

Not as a separately sold product. Aiven acquired EverSQL in November 2023 and launched its engine as the Aiven AI Database Optimizer in May 2024. The eversql.com site publishes no plans and links to Aiven's standalone SQL Query Optimizer.

Is the Aiven SQL Query Optimizer free?

Aiven describes the standalone optimizer as free during the Early Availability period. It accepts SQL statements and metadata that you upload manually and returns index and rewrite suggestions for PostgreSQL and MySQL.

Does it need access to my data?

Aiven's documentation says the optimizer works without database credentials or access to table data, using schema structure and statistics instead, and that literal values in slow query logs are masked by default.

Can I use it with a database that is not on Aiven?

Only through the standalone page, by pasting queries and metadata. Continuous analysis through AI insights is documented for Aiven for PostgreSQL and Aiven for MySQL services.
