Short answer

pganalyze suits PostgreSQL teams that want specific tuning advice rather than generic charts: index and VACUUM recommendations, EXPLAIN plans and log insights on managed or self-managed servers. It covers PostgreSQL only, retention is tied to the plan, and self-hosting needs the quote-based Enterprise plan.

How we know: This profile is research-based: features, supported platforms, pricing and deployment options were checked against pganalyze's official website, pricing page, documentation and the pganalyze collector repository on 7 November 2026. We have not used pganalyze on our own databases.

Overview

pganalyze is a monitoring and tuning service built only for PostgreSQL. It gathers query statistics, schema and table statistics, operating system metrics and PostgreSQL log data, and turns them into query dashboards, advisors and alerts. pganalyze lists support for Amazon RDS and Aurora, Google Cloud SQL and AlloyDB, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Heroku Postgres, Crunchy Bridge, Aiven, Supabase, Neon and self-managed PostgreSQL on virtual machines, containers or Kubernetes.

Data is gathered by the pganalyze collector, which is open source under the 3-clause BSD licence and can run as a package, in Docker or as a separate Heroku app. The collector sends data to pganalyze's cloud service or, on the Enterprise plan, to pganalyze Enterprise Server, a self-contained version that runs behind your firewall on Docker or Kubernetes.

Key features

  • Query performance dashboards and per-query details built on PostgreSQL query statistics
  • Index Advisor that recommends missing indexes from the observed workload
  • VACUUM Advisor and autovacuum monitoring, including transaction ID wraparound checks
  • Log Insights that classify PostgreSQL log events, plus auto_explain integration for EXPLAIN plans
  • Query Advisor and Workbooks for working through query tuning
  • Automated checks with alerts to email, Slack, PagerDuty and webhooks (webhooks in early access)
  • Self-hosted Enterprise Server for Docker on a VM, Amazon EKS, Azure AKS or non-root Kubernetes

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Deep PostgreSQL focus, with index and VACUUM advice beyond plain metrics
  • Supports a wide list of managed PostgreSQL providers
  • Public, simple pricing for the Production and Scale plans, with unlimited users
  • Open source collector you can inspect

Cons

  • PostgreSQL only; other engines need another tool
  • Retention is tied to the plan, with 14 days on Production
  • Self-hosting requires the quote-based Enterprise plan

Who it is best for

PostgreSQL teams, including those on RDS, Cloud SQL, Azure or Supabase, who want query, index and VACUUM tuning advice from a dedicated service.

Who should look elsewhere

Verdict

Our take

pganalyze is a focused choice for PostgreSQL teams that want guidance on indexes, VACUUM and slow queries rather than raw metrics alone. Its single-engine scope and plan-based retention are the main limits, and on-premises use means negotiating an Enterprise contract.
