Short answer

DbGate suits developers who want one free client for relational databases plus MongoDB and Redis, and teams that want the same tool in a browser on their own server. Schema and data compare, the AI tools and some cloud connectors sit in the paid Premium editions, which are low-cost by the standards of this category.

Overview

DbGate is a cross-platform database manager. The Community edition is published on GitHub under GPL-3.0 and, in the project's words, is free to use for any purpose. It connects to MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, CockroachDB, SQL Server, Oracle, SQLite, DuckDB, Firebird, ClickHouse and Cassandra, and to MongoDB and Redis. Version 7.3.4 was released on 2 November 2026.

The same application runs on the desktop (an Electron app for Windows, macOS and Linux) or as a web application, deployed from the dbgate/dbgate Docker image, the dbgate-serve npm package or cloud marketplaces. Premium adds features such as schema and data compare and AI tools, and connectors including Amazon Redshift, Turso, Cloudflare D1, Azure Cosmos DB, DynamoDB and Firestore; Team Premium adds an administration interface for the web app.

Key features

  • SQL editor with code completion, a SQL formatter and a join helper
  • Visual query designer and ER diagrams
  • Data browsing and editing for tables, MongoDB collections and Redis keys
  • Import and export with CSV, Excel, JSON, NDJSON, XML and DBF
  • Schema compare and deploy, plus data compare, in the Premium editions
  • Desktop app or self-hosted web app (Docker or npm) from the same code base
  • Read-only connections and a choice of saving passwords encrypted or asking each time

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Free GPL-3.0 edition that covers MongoDB and Redis as well as SQL databases
  • Runs as a desktop app or a self-hosted web app
  • Wide packaging, including portable Windows builds, AppImage, deb, Snap, Flatpak and ARM64 builds
  • Low published prices for the paid editions

Cons

  • Schema compare, data compare and the AI tools are Premium only
  • Several cloud connectors (Redshift, Cosmos DB, DynamoDB, Firestore) need Premium
  • The connection documentation is brief, for example on SSH authentication options

Pricing

DbGate Community is free and open source under GPL-3.0. As listed on DbGate's pricing page, Premium costs USD 12 a month or USD 120 a year for one user, and Team Premium costs USD 15 per user per month or USD 150 per user per year for two or more users; both have a 30-day free trial. Who it is best for

Developers and small teams who want one free client for SQL databases plus MongoDB and Redis, on the desktop or in a browser on their own server.

Who should look elsewhere

  • Teams that need deep engine-specific administration, such as SQL Server Agent jobs or Oracle DBA panels: use the engine vendor's tool alongside it, see database management tools.
  • Users who want the longest-established free multi-database desktop client: see DBeaver.

Verdict

Our take

DbGate is a capable free client when you need SQL databases and MongoDB or Redis in one place, and its web mode is a practical way to give a team shared access. Budget for Premium if schema or data compare matters to you, and check that your engine's connector is in the edition you plan to use.
