How to Download & Install DBeaver (Windows, Mac, Linux)

DBeaver Community is a free download from dbeaver.io, with installers for Windows and macOS and packages for Linux. This guide explains which file to pick, what the system requirements are, and the install, upgrade and first-launch steps exactly as DBeaver documents them.

Steps and facts checked 8 October 2026 against the vendor's official documentation. Versions covered: DBeaver Community 26.2.2 (released October 2026); DBeaver PRO editions 26.2. Next review due April 2027. Menus, shortcuts and prices change between releases; check the vendor's documentation for your version.
Short answer
  • Download DBeaver Community only from the official page at dbeaver.io/download; the paid editions download from dbeaver.com/download.
  • Supported systems are Windows 10 or later, Windows Server 2016 or later, macOS 11 or later and most modern Linux distributions; both x86 and ARM builds are offered.
  • Every distribution bundles its own OpenJDK, so you do not need to install Java first.
  • Settings, connections and scripts live in a separate DBeaverData folder, so removing or upgrading the program does not delete them.
How we know: Research-based: download options, system requirements, commands and installer parameters were checked against the DBeaver Community download page and the DBeaver installation documentation on 8 October 2026. CodeWithSQL has not run these installers for this guide, so no screenshots are shown; the steps are DBeaver's documented procedure, and labels can change between releases.

DBeaver download: which file to choose

The official DBeaver download page for the free edition is dbeaver.io/download. It detects your operating system and offers the current Community release, which was 26.2.2 on 8 October 2026. The commercial editions (Lite, Enterprise, Ultimate) have their own downloads at dbeaver.com/download and need a licence or a 14-day trial; see our DBeaver review for how the editions differ.

DBeaver Community publishes a minor release roughly every two weeks and a major release every quarter, so the version number moves quickly. Avoid third-party download mirrors; the download page links to the official files, its own GitHub mirror and the package stores listed below.

System requirements and Java

DBeaver's installation documentation lists these supported operating systems: Microsoft Windows 10 or later, Windows Server 2016 or later, macOS 11 or later, and most modern Linux distributions. The download page adds that Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 and earlier, and macOS 10 and earlier are not supported.

DBeaver is a Java application built on Eclipse, but you do not need to install Java. The download page states that all distributions include an OpenJDK bundle, and the documentation notes that the installer does not modify system settings or your Java installation, and that the bundled JDK is used only by DBeaver. If you prefer your own Java, the download page says you can delete the jre folder in the installation directory.

Install DBeaver on Windows

The installer is DBeaver's recommended method on Windows and macOS. The documented steps are:

  1. Download the EXE for your architecture (x86 or ARM) from the download page.
  2. Run the installer executable and follow the on-screen instructions. If an older version is installed, the installer upgrades it.
  3. Start DBeaver from the Start menu.

ZIP archive (no installer). Extract the archive and run the dbeaver executable. DBeaver warns not to extract a new version over an old one: remove the previous folder first.

Silent install for many machines. The installer accepts command-line parameters: /S for silent mode (case-sensitive, and it needs /allusers or /currentuser), and /D=path to set the folder, which must be the last parameter. Installing for all users needs administrator rights. To uninstall silently, run Uninstaller.exe from the DBeaver folder with the same parameters.

Silent install for the current user (run in the folder that holds the installer)
dbeaver-ce-latest-windows-x86_64.exe /S /currentuser

Install DBeaver on macOS and Linux

macOS

Download the DMG for Apple Silicon or Intel, open it and drag DBeaver into Applications. If you use Homebrew, the download page gives a cask command instead.

Install DBeaver Community with Homebrew
brew install --cask dbeaver-community

Linux

For Debian and Ubuntu, install the DEB package with dpkg; for Fedora, RHEL and similar systems, use the RPM. Then start DBeaver from the menu or with dbeaver &. To upgrade an RPM install, DBeaver documents the -Uvh parameter. The TAR.GZ archive works like the Windows ZIP. A Snap package and a Flatpak are also listed on the download page.

DBeaver is an Eclipse RCP application, and its troubleshooting page lists GTK-related issues on some desktops. For example, if you see "No more handles because there is no underlying browser available", it recommends installing the libwebkit2gtk library.

Debian or Ubuntu (replace the version placeholder with the file you downloaded)
sudo dpkg -i dbeaver-<version>.deb
dbeaver &
RPM-based distributions: install, then upgrade later
sudo rpm -ivh dbeaver-<version>.rpm
sudo rpm -Uvh dbeaver-<version>.rpm
Snap
sudo snap install dbeaver-ce --classic

First launch, workspace and updates

When DBeaver starts for the first time, the Product Configuration wizard opens. It asks for the interface language, theme and how much of the database structure the Connections tree shows, optional features, and whether to share anonymous usage statistics. Its final step can create a sample database, and you can reopen the wizard later from Help, Show Product Configuration. A sample SQLite database (based on Chinook) can also be added at any time from Help, Create Sample Base, which is a safe way to explore the tool before you decide whether you need a paid edition.

DBeaver keeps configuration, connections and scripts in a DBeaverData folder: %APPDATA%\DBeaverData\ on Windows, ~/Library/DBeaverData/ on macOS and $XDG_DATA_HOME/DBeaverData/ on Linux (by default ~/.local/share). Because of this, the download page says you can remove an old version without losing settings. To move to a new machine, copy the whole workspace folder.

On Windows and macOS, DBeaver checks for new versions periodically and offers to download and run the new installer. On Linux, update through the same package method you used to install.

Frequently asked questions

Is the DBeaver download free?

Yes. DBeaver Community is free and open source under the Apache License 2.0. The Lite, Enterprise and Ultimate editions are separate paid downloads with a 14-day trial; see DBeaver pricing.

Do I need to install Java before DBeaver?

No. The installers and archives include their own OpenJDK, which only DBeaver uses. The installer does not change your system Java.

Is there a portable version of DBeaver for Windows?

The ZIP archive runs without an installer: extract it and start the dbeaver executable. Settings are still stored in the DBeaverData folder in your user profile unless you start DBeaver with a custom workspace using the -data parameter.

Will upgrading DBeaver delete my connections?

No. Connections and settings are kept in the separate DBeaverData folder. The installer upgrades in place; for ZIP or TAR.GZ installs, remove the old program folder and extract the new one rather than extracting over it.

Can I install DBeaver on Linux without root access?

The TAR.GZ archive can be extracted to a folder you own and run from there. The DEB, RPM and Snap methods shown above use sudo.
