Short answer

data.world suits organisations that want a cloud catalog built on a knowledge graph, with collectors for warehouses and BI tools and governance workflows, and it is now a natural candidate for ServiceNow customers. Its standalone future is not stated, so confirm with ServiceNow how it is packaged and priced before committing.

How we know: This profile is research-based: ownership was checked against ServiceNow's Form 10-Q (quarter ended 30 September 2025) and data.world's home page; features and deployment against data.world documentation on connecting to data, the business glossary and enterprise offerings; and ServiceNow's Workflow Data Fabric documentation, all on 7 November 2026. We have not used data.world.

Overview

data.world is an enterprise data catalog built on knowledge graph technology. Collectors pull metadata, and in some cases lineage, from databases, warehouses and reporting tools into the graph; they run as data.world cloud collectors or as on-premises collectors. Live connections, including virtualised queries to sources such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift, SQL Server, Oracle and PostgreSQL, support query and analysis. Enterprise organisations get a business glossary whose terms link to tables, columns, datasets and projects, and the Eureka Explorer shows lineage.

ServiceNow completed its acquisition of data.world in July 2025 to strengthen its Workflow Data Fabric, which now lists a Data Catalog among its modules. data.world is offered as a private instance on its multi-tenant platform, with logically isolated users and resources, or as a single-tenant installation with a separate application, infrastructure and cloud account per customer.

Key features

  • Knowledge-graph catalog that links technical metadata, business terms and people
  • Cloud and on-premises metadata collectors for databases, warehouses and BI tools
  • Data virtualisation connections for querying sources such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift and SQL Server
  • Business glossary linked to tables, columns, datasets and projects (Enterprise licence)
  • Lineage in the Eureka Explorer, with custom lineage relationships
  • Governance workflows and automations
  • Private instance or single-tenant installation for isolation

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Knowledge graph model connects metadata, glossary terms and people
  • Collectors can run on premises when sources are private
  • Single-tenant installation for strict isolation requirements
  • Fits ServiceNow customers building on Workflow Data Fabric

Cons

  • No published pricing, and standalone packaging after the ServiceNow acquisition is not stated
  • Business glossary needs an Enterprise licence
  • Roadmap now depends on ServiceNow's Workflow Data Fabric plans

Pricing

data.world publishes no prices: its site says "No hidden costs" and offers a demo, and its former pricing address no longer loads. The business glossary requires an Enterprise licence, according to the documentation. ServiceNow also sells a Data Catalog within Workflow Data Fabric; ask ServiceNow whether data.world is quoted standalone or as part of that.

Pricing checked on the vendor's official page on 7 November 2026. Prices change; confirm before buying.

Who it is best for

Organisations, especially ServiceNow customers, that want a cloud knowledge-graph catalog with governance workflows and collectors for their warehouses and BI tools.

Typical use cases

  • Building a searchable inventory of warehouse and BI assets
  • Linking business glossary terms to physical tables and columns
  • Tracing lineage between sources and reports
  • Feeding catalog context into ServiceNow workflows and AI agents

Who should look elsewhere

Verdict

Our take

data.world is a capable knowledge-graph catalog with flexible collectors and isolated deployment options, and since July 2025 it is a ServiceNow product. That makes it a logical shortlist entry for ServiceNow customers, while others should get written confirmation of standalone availability, pricing and roadmap first.

Frequently asked questions

Who owns data.world?

ServiceNow. It announced the deal in May 2025 and completed the acquisition in July 2025, according to its Form 10-Q for the quarter ended 30 September 2025.

Is data.world still sold on its own?

Its site still offers demos and is branded "now by ServiceNow", but no official page says whether it is sold standalone or only within ServiceNow's Workflow Data Fabric. Ask ServiceNow.

Can data.world reach on-premises databases?

Yes. Its metadata collectors can run on premises as well as in data.world's cloud, and they send metadata into the catalog.
