Short answer

ThoughtSpot suits organisations on a cloud warehouse that want business users to ask questions in natural language over a governed model, and product teams that embed analytics. Entry prices are published, but AI usage on per-user plans is capped and the larger plans are quoted, so model costs on your real user count.

How we know: This profile is research-based: features, data connections, deployment and prices were checked against ThoughtSpot's pricing page and the ThoughtSpot Cloud documentation on 7 November 2026. We have not used ThoughtSpot or verified its AI answers.

Overview

ThoughtSpot is an analytics platform where users explore data through natural-language search and AI agents (Spotter), and publish interactive dashboards called Liveboards. Analysts build Models in a Model editor: tables, joins, columns, formulas, filters, parameters and row-level security, with definitions also expressible in TML (ThoughtSpot Modeling Language) files.

ThoughtSpot Cloud is the software-as-a-service deployment. Its Connections feature links to 30 external databases and queries them directly rather than copying the data, although ThoughtSpot periodically fetches distinct attribute values to power search suggestions. The documentation also describes a self-managed ThoughtSpot Software deployment in which the customer runs the hardware and operating system, mainly in the context of migrating to Cloud.

Key features

  • Natural-language search and Spotter AI agents for asking questions of data
  • Liveboards: interactive dashboards with drill-down that needs no predefined drill path
  • Models built in a Model editor or TML, with joins, formulas, parameters and row-level security
  • Connections that query 30 external databases live, including Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery and Redshift
  • Embedding through the Visual Embed SDK and REST API
  • KPI monitoring with anomaly detection and alerts
  • SSO via SAML, OAuth and OIDC, plus mobile apps for iOS and Android

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Natural-language search and AI agents as the primary way to explore data
  • Live queries against the warehouse rather than copying data into ThoughtSpot
  • Published entry prices for the Essentials and Pro plans
  • Embedding SDK with a free developer tier to start

Cons

  • Commercial only; Enterprise and embedded production pricing need a quote
  • Spotter usage on per-user plans is capped at 25 queries per user per month
  • Essentials and Pro have user and row limits (50 users and 25M rows; 1,000 users and 250M rows)
  • Answers depend on a well-built Model, which takes analyst effort to maintain

Pricing

Published on ThoughtSpot's pricing page (USD symbol shown, billed annually): Essentials from USD 25 per user per month for 5 to 50 users and up to 25M rows; Pro from USD 50 per user per month for up to 1,000 users and 250M rows, with Spotter AI agents limited to 25 queries per user per month; Enterprise custom with unlimited users and data. A usage-based model starts at USD 0.10 per credit, and Enterprise usage-based pricing is custom. For embedding, a Developer plan is free for one year (up to 10 users, 25M rows) and Embedded Enterprise is custom. Free trials are offered for Essentials and Pro; add-ons such as Analyst Studio and the MCP server are not priced publicly.

Who it is best for

Organisations on a cloud data warehouse that want governed, search and AI-driven self-service analytics for business users, or embedded analytics in a product.

Who should look elsewhere

Verdict

Our take

ThoughtSpot is a mature choice for search and AI-led analytics on a cloud warehouse, with live querying, a modelling layer and an embedding SDK. Its published entry prices help with evaluation, but plan limits and capped AI queries mean larger deployments end up in a quoted Enterprise contract.

Frequently asked questions

How much does ThoughtSpot cost?

ThoughtSpot publishes entry prices billed annually: Essentials from USD 25 per user per month (5 to 50 users) and Pro from USD 50 per user per month (up to 1,000 users). Enterprise is custom, and a usage-based model starts at USD 0.10 per credit (November 2026).

Does ThoughtSpot copy my data?

With Connections, ThoughtSpot queries the external database directly and does not copy the data. It does periodically fetch distinct values of attribute columns to power search suggestions.

Can I embed ThoughtSpot in my application?

Yes, through the Visual Embed SDK and REST API. ThoughtSpot lists a Developer plan that is free for one year for up to 10 users, and custom-priced Embedded Enterprise for production use.
