SQLBackupAndFTP suits small businesses and solo admins who want scheduled database backups copied off-site without scripting, including from SQL Server Express. Prices are low and published, but the edition matters: S3 and Azure destinations and encryption are Professional-only, and updates beyond the first month need the yearly subscription.
Overview
SQLBackupAndFTP is a Windows desktop application published by Pranas.NET. It connects to SQL Server (including Express, remote servers, Azure SQL and Amazon RDS), MySQL or PostgreSQL, runs backups on a schedule, compresses and optionally encrypts the files, and uploads them to the destinations you pick. For SQL Server it offers full, differential and transaction log backups and log shipping; for MySQL and PostgreSQL it lists incremental backups; it can also back up files and folders.
Destinations include local and network folders, NAS, FTP, SFTP and FTPS, Amazon S3 and S3-compatible storage, Azure Storage, Google Drive, Google Cloud, Dropbox, OneDrive and OneDrive for Business, Box, Backblaze B2 and Wasabi, though which ones you can use depends on the edition. Notifications go by email in every edition and to Slack, Teams, Discord or webhooks from Standard upward. Version 12.8.3 (September 2026) requires .NET Framework 4.7.2 or later; the download page does not list supported database versions.

Who it is best for
Small businesses, consultants and solo admins who need scheduled SQL Server, MySQL or PostgreSQL backups sent to cloud storage from a Windows machine at low cost.
Typical use cases
- Scheduling nightly backups of SQL Server Express databases, which have no SQL Server Agent
- Sending a copy of every backup to Google Drive, Dropbox or Backblaze B2
- Backing up a remote Azure SQL or Amazon RDS database to local storage
- Taking hourly transaction log backups for a small SQL Server application
Who should look elsewhere
- Large SQL Server estates needing central policies and fast restore features, such as IDERA SQL Safe Backup.
- Very large MySQL or PostgreSQL databases that need physical backups, such as Percona XtraBackup or pgBackRest.
Verdict
SQLBackupAndFTP is an inexpensive, easy way to schedule database backups and get them off the server, with clear published prices and a usable free edition. Check that your edition covers the destinations and encryption you need, budget for the yearly service if you want updates, and look at server-focused tools for larger estates.
