DataGrip Pricing Explained (2026)

DataGrip has two prices: nothing, if you use it for learning, hobby projects, open source or content creation, and a per-user subscription for commercial work. This page sets out the current JetBrains list prices, who qualifies for the free licence, what you give up with it, and the cheaper routes that are easy to miss.

Steps and facts checked 8 October 2026 against the vendor's official documentation. Versions covered: DataGrip 2026.2 (2026.2.6). Next review due January 2027. Menus, shortcuts and prices change between releases; check the vendor's documentation for your version.
Short answer
  • DataGrip is free for non-commercial use (learning, hobby projects, open source without commercial benefit, content creation) under a one-year licence that renews automatically if you keep using it.
  • Commercial use needs a paid subscription. Individuals pay less than organisations, and individual annual prices fall in the second and third year.
  • The free licence is full-featured apart from Code With Me, but it is for individuals only and requires sending anonymous usage statistics.
  • Every paid plan starts with a 30-day trial, and a yearly subscription includes a perpetual fallback licence.
  • If you already pay for IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate or the All Products Pack, you may not need a separate DataGrip subscription.
How we know: Research-based: prices, licence terms and eligibility were checked on 8 October 2026 against the JetBrains DataGrip pricing page, the JetBrains non-commercial licensing FAQ, the perpetual fallback licence FAQ, the DataGrip blog announcement and the DataGrip and IntelliJ IDEA documentation. CodeWithSQL has no commercial relationship with JetBrains. Prices change; check the pricing page before you buy.

DataGrip pricing at a glance

DataGrip pricing is simpler than it first looks. JetBrains sells one product, DataGrip, in one feature set. What changes is the licence: a free DataGrip Non-Commercial licence, or a paid DataGrip Commercial subscription bought either by an individual or by an organisation. There is no cut-down community edition and no per-database add-on; one licence covers every database engine DataGrip supports.

Paid subscriptions are billed monthly or annually, per user. Individual annual subscriptions get cheaper in the second year and again from the third year onwards. Organisation subscriptions cost more per seat. The exact list prices are in the pricing table below; tax is added according to your country.

Is DataGrip free? The non-commercial licence

Yes, for non-commercial use. JetBrains made DataGrip free for non-commercial use on 1 October 2025, joining RustRover, CLion, Rider, WebStorm and RubyMine. The pricing page lists the qualifying uses as learning and self-education, open-source contributions without commercial benefit, any form of content creation, and hobby development. JetBrains' FAQ confirms that monetised content, such as a paid course or a YouTube channel with adverts, still counts as content creation.

The conditions that matter:

  • Individuals only. The licence does not apply to organisations or companies.
  • Paid work is commercial. If you are paid for your development work, or the project is meant to generate commercial benefit, you need a commercial licence. That includes salaried work for a non-profit.
  • Telemetry. Using the free licence means agreeing to send anonymised usage statistics, with no opt-out. More detailed code-related data collection is on by default and can be turned off in Settings | Appearance & Behavior | System Settings | Data Sharing.
  • Online activation. The licence must be activated online through a JetBrains Account; offline activation codes are not offered.
  • Term. The licence lasts one year and renews automatically if you use it in the last six months.

Feature-wise, JetBrains says the free licence is identical to the paid version except that Code With Me (collaborative editing) is not available in DataGrip.

DataGrip commercial licence: individual or organisation

An individual commercial subscription is bought and owned by a person, for example a freelancer or contractor paying for their own tools. An organisation subscription is bought by a company for its staff and is priced per user. Both unlock the same product; the pricing page lists private support tickets and control over shared data for the commercial plans, while the free licence gets public forums and the bug tracker.

JetBrains' advice on mixed use is direct: if any of your DataGrip work earns direct or indirect commercial advantage, buy a commercial subscription, which also covers your non-commercial projects. If you are unsure whether a new project will become commercial, JetBrains recommends the commercial licence.

Free trial and the perpetual fallback licence

According to the DataGrip documentation, a new user can evaluate DataGrip free of charge for up to 30 days; the IDE starts the trial without a login. Organisations can ask JetBrains to extend a trial.

A perpetual fallback licence lets you keep using a version of DataGrip after your subscription ends, without updates. You get one with a yearly subscription, or after 12 consecutive months of a monthly subscription. JetBrains says it covers the latest major version that was available when your subscription started, or older versions, so it is a safety net rather than a way to stay current.

Cheaper routes: students, IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate and the All Products Pack

  • Students. The JetBrains Student Pack page lists DataGrip among the free options for students. The full Student Pack, which covers all JetBrains IDEs, requires student verification.
  • IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate. IntelliJ IDEA includes the Database Tools and SQL plugin that DataGrip is built on. JetBrains' documentation notes that this support is limited without an Ultimate subscription, so the full database tooling comes with Ultimate rather than the free edition.
  • All Products Pack. If you need DataGrip plus another JetBrains IDE, the All Products Pack bundles them and is listed in the pricing table.

Pricing

Prices from the provider's official pricing pages, checked 8 October 2026, region List prices on the vendor website (shown in US dollars; tax depends on your country), in USD, excluding tax. List prices only; discounts, commitments and your actual usage change the bill.

Prices below are JetBrains list prices per user before tax. The pricing page adds tax according to your country, any tax identification number (such as a VAT ID) and the purchase method. Individual annual prices drop in the second year and again from the third year if you renew without a gap.

On these list prices, an individual who renews annually for three years pays 109 + 87 + 65 = 261 USD before tax, compared with 130.80 USD a year (12 x 10.90 USD) on monthly billing. A team of five on organisation annual billing pays 5 x 259 = 1,295 USD a year before tax.

No. JetBrains states that if you are paid for your work, even by a non-profit, you should use a commercial licence, and that the free licence does not apply to organisations or companies.

How much does DataGrip cost per year?

See the pricing table. Individuals pay less than organisations, and individual annual prices fall in the second and third year. All prices exclude tax.

What is missing from the free DataGrip licence?
