Oracle SQL Online: Free Ways to Run Oracle SQL & PL/SQL

No Oracle engine runs inside a web browser, so the editor above runs SQLite for standard SQL practice. For real Oracle SQL and PL/SQL online, Oracle runs its own free browser worksheet, FreeSQL; for a local database there is Oracle AI Database 26ai Free. This page covers both and the Oracle syntax that differs.

No Oracle engine runs inside a web browser, so this editor runs SQLite for standard SQL practice. Oracle features such as DUAL, PL/SQL blocks, sequences and ROWNUM will not work here. The page below covers Oracle's own free browser tool and other free options.

Examples:
Sample data: tables and columns

Loads with the engine.

Facts on this page checked 8 October 2026 against the official documentation. Versions covered: sql.js 1.14.2 (SQLite 3.49.1) in the panel; FreeSQL 26.10.0 (Oracle AI Database 26ai); Oracle AI Database 26ai Free 23.26.3. Next review due April 2027. The playground runs entirely in your browser; nothing you type or open is sent to CodeWithSQL.
Short answer
  • The panel is not Oracle. It runs SQLite, so DUAL, PL/SQL blocks, sequences and ROWNUM fail here.
  • Oracle's free browser tool for real Oracle SQL and PL/SQL is FreeSQL at freesql.com. The old Live SQL address, livesql.oracle.com, now opens the FreeSQL worksheet.
  • Oracle AI Database 26ai Free runs locally on Windows, Linux or as a container image, with up to 2 CPUs, 2 GB of RAM and 12 GB of user data.
  • Standard SQL (joins, grouping, subqueries) written on this page also runs on Oracle; row limiting and string handling differ.
How we know: Written from the playground's own code and Oracle's official pages (oracle.com, the FreeSQL site and changelog, and the Oracle SQL Language Reference), checked on 8 October 2026. We have not installed Oracle Database for this page.

What the Oracle SQL online editor on this page runs

Oracle Database is a server product, and no Oracle engine runs inside a web browser. The editor above runs SQLite (compiled to WebAssembly by sql.js) on your device with a shop and an HR sample database, so you can practise the SQL that Oracle shares with other databases.

Press Run or Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on a Mac). Results show up to 1,000 rows; Download CSV saves the last one. Sample data switches between the shop tables (customers, products, orders, order_items) and the HR tables (departments, employees); Reset data restores them. Copy share link puts the query in the URL after #q=, nothing is stored on a server, and the link fills the editor without running it.

Standard SQL (runs here and on Oracle): products priced above the average
SELECT name, price
FROM products
WHERE price > (SELECT AVG(price) FROM products)
ORDER BY price DESC;

FreeSQL: Oracle's own free browser tool (formerly Live SQL)

FreeSQL is the free, browser-based SQL worksheet Oracle runs for learning and trying Oracle SQL. Oracle's database pages describe freesql.com as a free sandbox to develop SQL without launching a GUI, and the former Live SQL address now opens the same FreeSQL worksheet.

  • Real Oracle. The worksheet runs against Oracle AI Database 26ai. In August 2026 FreeSQL moved existing 23ai databases to 26ai.
  • SQL and PL/SQL. Run Statement is Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on a Mac) and Run Script is F5, and the SQL Tutorials library includes PL/SQL anonymous blocks, analytic functions and hierarchical queries.
  • Account. Signing in saves your work to your account for later.

Oracle AI Database 26ai Free on your own machine

Oracle AI Database 26ai Free is a free edition limited to 2 CPUs, 2 GB of RAM and 12 GB of user data. Oracle's quick start lists a Windows (64-bit) download, RPM packages for Oracle Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, 9 and 10, and a container image for Docker or Podman, container-registry.oracle.com/database/free:latest. Mac users run it through the container image. Connect to the first pluggable database with the service name FREEPDB1.

Oracle also offers Always Free Autonomous AI Database in Oracle Cloud. For tools, see best Oracle database tools; for engine choice, PostgreSQL vs Oracle and MySQL vs Oracle.

Privacy

The editor on this page runs entirely in your browser; your queries and results are not sent to CodeWithSQL or to Oracle, and everything resets when you reload. FreeSQL is different: it is Oracle's service, so what you run there is sent to Oracle and handled under Oracle's terms.

Frequently asked questions

Is Oracle Live SQL still available?

Oracle's free browser worksheet is now called FreeSQL, at freesql.com. The livesql.oracle.com address opens the FreeSQL worksheet.

Can I run PL/SQL online for free?

Yes, in FreeSQL. The editor on this page cannot run PL/SQL because it is SQLite.

Is Oracle Database free?

Oracle AI Database 26ai Free costs nothing and is limited to 2 CPUs, 2 GB of RAM and 12 GB of user data.

Why does SELECT ... FROM DUAL fail here?

DUAL is a one-row table that Oracle creates automatically. SQLite has no DUAL table; write SELECT 1 + 1; without a FROM clause instead.
